SUMMARY:Maiden Series 22 Campdraft
DESCRIPTION:Campdrafting is a uniquely Australian equestrian discipline\, dominated by Australian Stock Horses. Campdrafting involves a rider entering a “camp” (yard) which contains six to eight head of cattle. The rider cuts out (separates) one beast from the others and brings it to the front of the camp. Working the beast (blocking/turning)\, two or three times to prove that the rider has the beast under control. The rider then calls for the gates to be opened. The rider proceeds to work the beast around a course in a larger arena. Once completed\, the rider guides the beast through two pegs that are placed apart to finish the campdraft. Points are awarded for horsemanship and control of the beast within the set time limits. \nThe Maiden Campdraft Series consists of two rounds plus a final. Points are awarded for Horse Work (out of 70)\, Cut Out (out of 26) and Course (out of 4)\, to give a maximum of 100 points. \nCourse\nThe course consists of two pegs and a gate and can be either a left or right-handed course at the discretion of the judge. Points are awarded for horsemanship and control of the beast around the\ncourse within the time limit of 40 seconds. The competitor is allowed two attempts at each peg. \nHorse Work\nA competitor is judged on the speed and skill of their riding around the course. The first peg of the course must be completed in order for the competitor to receive any horse work points. \nCut Out\nThe competitor cuts out a beast from the cattle in the camp (yard) and brings that beast to the front of the camp. SUMMARY:ABBEY Open Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The ABBEY Open Challenge is of the featured competitions at the National Show held over four sections: Hack\, Working\, Time Trial and Cattle. It has been designed to showcase the ability and temperament of the Society’s horses five years and over. \nPrizemoney is awarded to the winner and placegetters of each section. Scores from each section are added together\, with the exception of the Time Trial time\, which is deducted from the total score to give an overall score. An overall winner\, based on points\, is calculated after the completion of all four sections. \nHack Section\nDuring the Hack Section\, the horse should be calm\, supple\, obedient and move freely. The workout should demonstrate the horse’s basic training in fluent and flowing motion. The horse should be relaxed and give a comfortable ride. \nWorking Section\nThe Working Section tests the horse’s ability to maneuver well whilst engaging its hindquarters during haunch turns and stops. The horse should be relaxed and settled during the workout\, be light on its feet\, well balanced and responsive to the rider’s commands\, with little or no resistance to the bit. \nTime Trial Section\nThe course for the Time Trial may include jumping small obstacles\, opening a gate\, and the like. Although this is a timed event\, some sections of the course may stipulate the horse’s pace. Penalties may be given for break of pace\, knocking over obstacles\, etc. \nCattle Section\nThe Cattle Section is a normal campdraft. Prior to commencement of the event\, the Judge will stipulate a left or right-handed course and competitors will be scored and judged as follows: Cut Out: 26 points Horse Work: 70 points Gate: 4 points \n
